MEET: Sheri Matteo
LOCATION: Kaiser Napa-Solano
Sheri has 20 years experience as a CNM. She has a BA from Brown University and a BSN/MSN from Columbia University School of Nursing. Prior to being Secretary of CNMA, Sheri was one of the two NorCal reps to CNMA for 2 years. She has worked in both private practice and public health and at various NorCal Kaisers. She was the Director of Midwifery for the Prima Medical Group in Marin County for 4+ years.
Sheri is an alumnus of the California Health Care Foundation Leadership Development Program, through which she developed a keen interest in both the politics and economics of healthcare. She is the Chairperson of the Midwifery Business Network (MBN), an official caucus of the ACNM. Through the MBN, Sheri works closely with the ACNM Business Section on programming Midwifery Works!, a conference devoted to the business and professional aspects of midwifery practice), as well as the ACNM Foundation, supporting and partially funding the Thatcher Fellow Scholarships, which allow emerging midwife leaders to attendMidwifery Works! and other leadership development opportunities.
Sheri is a staunch advocate for the removal of physician supervision for Advanced Practice Clinicians. Sheri is currently in teacher training for Mindfulness Based Childbirth and Parenting and hopes to begin offering classes for patients as well as practitioners in 2019. She is also a member of the American Cannabis Nurses Association, advocating for the destigmatization of cannabis by providing health and wellness information for responsible, safe and effective consumption.
