In addition to her Midwifery work, Nerissa has been helping support mothers to breastfeed as a La Leche League Leader since 2003. In 2018 she also became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).

As a student midwife Nerissa did multiple internships, working with midwives both at a birthcenter and a homebirth-based practice as well as doing an apprenticeship in Senegal and the Philippines for a month each. Since becoming a Licensed Midwife, she has volunteered with Midwives for Haiti and Haiti Healthcare Partners. In February 2018 she spent a month in Bangladesh in conjunction with the HOPE Foundation Bangladesh and Midwife Pilgrim helping with the Rohingya Refugee Crisis. Doing Missionary Midwifery is very important to her!

Nerissa has been married to her husband for more than 20 years and has two teenaged daughters who were both born at home in beautiful waterbirths with the help of midwives.
