MEET: Joanna Bronkema
Joanna Bronkema, CNM, WHNP, provides evidence-based, holistic healthcare to women and LGBTQI people in their conception, pregnancy, birth, and all stages of reproductive health. Joanna is a Certified Nurse Midwife and Nurse Practitioner offering homebirth as well as birth center birth.
She began her career as en environmental biologist, but soon discovered the work that needed to be done to restore the rights of childbearing people. She became a doula and attended births in homes, birth centers and hospitals in California and rural Guatemala, and then went back to school at UCSF, the University of California San Francisco to receive her degrees as a Registered Nurse, Public Health Nurse, Certified Nurse Midwife, and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. As a CNM, Joanna can offer conventional procedures and prescribe conventional Western medicines, but she also has seen that the best approach is often the least interventive one and therefore incorporates the 6 Naturopathic Principles in her care.
In the unfortunate climate of US healthcare, where decisions are made based on money and lawsuits and not based on what is actually the best for mother and baby, Joanna is able to use her former training as a scientist to offer you truly evidence-based care. Joanna has experience in hospital, birth center, and community/home birth settings and offers both allopathic and alternative/complementary and herbal treatments for common health and pregnancy concerns.
Her birth philosophy is that women are strong and birth is natural and beautiful. Joanna's role is to be the guardian of wellness for mother and baby, but also to assist a mom-to-be discover her own strength, knowledge, and internal beauty in labor and birth so that she and her family can embrace an empowering childbirth experience without fear, no matter where it may lead them. Joanna is fluent in Spanish; se habla español.
