MEET: Cathy McGovern
Cathy attended UC Davis as an undergraduate and soon after began pursuing her career in Midwifery. Earning her B.S. in Nursing at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, Cathy then moved with her husband to Atlanta, Georgia. While living in Atlanta, Cathy worked for several years as an RN on a hospital labor and delivery unit and gave birth to her daughter. She then returned to school at Emory University in Atlanta and earned her MSN in Nurse-Midwifery and MPH in Health Care Policy through a dual-degree program.
After moving back to California, Cathy worked for three years as a CNM at Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa, California, where she also gave birth to her son. Eventually settling back in Davis, California, with her family, Cathy has worked as a CNM with CommuniCare Health Centers, a federally-qualified health center, and Sutter Davis Hospital for the past 18 years.
Cathy enjoys educating women to make their own health care decisions. She feels passionate about the long-term positive impact that midwives can have on women’s lives. Cathy recently joined the CNMA Health Policy Committee to help increase women’s access to midwifery care. In her free time, Cathy enjoys riding her tandem bike, swimming, and reading.
